Users of iOS have just received a welcome surprise- Google will officially be rolling out the iconic Bitcoin symbol on the keyboard layout.

As long as users have the Google Gboard app instead of the default Apple keyboard, cryptocurrency enthusiasts, as well as all newcomers can enjoy the brand new feature.

While some may feel this is not a big step in itself, but the introduction by Google’s developers of the Bitcoin symbol is arguably one more step towards mainstream adoption and acceptance.

It also just as significantly suggests that the technology titan believes that the interest in cryptocurrency as a whole is continuing to develop and gain widespread recognition.

This follows a change of perception in the thinking of Google’s attitude towards cryptocurrency as in September 2018; they removed a ban which they had initially been placed four months earlier.

During the announcement, Scott Spencer, Google’s Director of Product Management, Sustainable Ads, stated:

“We don’t have a crystal ball to know where the future is going to go with cryptocurrencies, but we’ve seen enough consumer harm or potential for consumer harm that it’s an area that we want to approach with extreme caution.”

Copeland further stated:

“But, it is a major endorsement by the web giant that has so far stayed away from cryptocurrencies, although a recent ban on advertising crypto projects was recently lifted suggesting Google might be warming to crypto: A small step, but a positive one.”

Google, along with other tech giants such as Microsoft in recent times have continued to step up their support of Bitcoin.

Microsoft products allow users to insert the cryptocurrency symbol, , by typing 20BF plus ALT. This is in addition to Microsoft accepting payments in Bitcoin for media content on its Windows and Xbox stores.

While the Bitcoin symbol is available on iOS, Android users will be eagerly awaiting Google’s rollout of the feature on their mobile phones- a small, but a further positive sign of a promising future for the cryptocurrency.
