Cryptocurrency extraordinaire, Brock Pierce, recently appeared on the ‘Rekt Podcast’ and mentioned how he feels there will be three pillars for mainstream blockchain adoption.

The pillars he stated as being:

  • Social Networking
  • Gaming
  • Messaging

While there has been much development of blockchain d’Apps in terms of financial, industrial and a whole variety of industries, the above three mediums are somewhat underdeveloped when compared to their more well-known counterparts. So the mention of those three pillars being Brock’s choice can be seen as surprising.

However, over the course of the podcast, he explains further why he believes in each one to be the gateway for further adoption.

Pierce explains the mass of negative feelings in the current social networking space. He states how many users “feel trapped” with platforms like Facebook and Instagram and more importantly as we have seen with the recent Cambridge Analytica scandal, users data are being abused and when their data is sold, there are no tangible benefits at all to the user.

He summarizes the situation as there is a “critical mass” of users which will lead to an opportunity around social networking to implement blockchain technology fully.

He further concludes, “where blockchain can disrupt the social order, and give users control and ownership of their data, and the permission of who and what gets access to that data, and then having some form of financial monetization of that data.”

Pierce chooses gaming, quite simply due to the enormous market available worldwide; gaming has one the highest engaged and active communities around the world, especially when including the massive Asian markets. Many games like ‘World of Warcraft’ which offer micro game transactions, allow the opportunity for players to improve the utility of their game. He analyzed how the ‘digital world mimics the analog world’ in that sense,

Messaging, Pierce believes it will be another pillar, as people will follow any person or message they genuinely believe in. Thereby using blockchain technology as a platform to allow for messaging will be vital for future acceptance and more importantly, adoption of blockchain.
