Popular web browser Opera has announced that they will be launching their Opera Touch browser for iOS in an official statement yesterday.

The feature was initially launched on Android phones in December 2018, and due to the success has decided to extend the same functionality for iOS devices.

Apple users can now rejoice, as the feature will arrive on iPhones and iPads. The browser allows the users to interact with Ethereum based app similar to MetaMask.

The statement read:

We are happy to let you know that after the success of our Crypto Wallet and Dapp explorer in Opera for Android, we have decided to open Opera Touch for iOS to Web 3. We are taking this step in response to popular demand from the Ethereum community. Many of you asked us to provide the same seamless Web 3 browsing experience we introduced to Android on iOS.

The company is available for testers, and potentially interested parties can sign up via their website.

Opera Touch will include a built-in cryptocurrency wallet, allowing users to store any ERC-20 tokens and other Ethereum assets like CryptoKitties.

This announcement arrives soon after Opera had recently partnered with HTC to release a custom version of the Opera browser for HTC’s blockchain phone- the Exodus 1.

Opera aims to encourage a more seamless and efficient user experience, stating:

We identified the biggest challenge to be the lack of easy-to-use solutions for crypto. Users were forced to install separate wallet apps which didn’t include full-featured browsers. Setting up such wallets was difficult and browsing the Web with a wallet app is burdensome. We removed this hurdle by integrating an easy-to-use wallet into our Android browser. Now, we are delivering this seamless experience to iOS users.

While not a groundbreaking move on the broader cryptocurrency universe, the news is still very positive in the wider framework of blockchain adoption.

With Samsung S10’s having their official cryptocurrency wallets and with Facebook rumored to be introducing their very own stablecoin, this announcement further provides proof of the continuing progress being made by the nascent industry.
